Students rotate through 10 activity stations to analyze their own hearing while studying the physiology of human hearing and the physics of sound. Using their classmates as subjects, students perform tests for bone conduction, auditory acuity, and sound localization. Students also learn about the structure of the ear, how each part of the ear contributes to the sense of hearing, and how loud noises over an extended period can cause hearing loss. In addition, they learn about the properties of sound waves and how sound waves affect the pitch and amplitude of sound. For a class of 30 students working in groups of 3.
