Excellent for all levels of teaching. Demonstrates the extraction of DNA from freeze-dried, nonpathogenic Micrococcus luteus cells. Students extract DNA using a detergent to break the cell walls. Illustrates the enormous length and acidic nature of the DNA molecule.
Classroom Kit is for use by a class of 30 students or for 12 separate teacher demonstrations. Hot water bath, test tubes, and 95% ethanol are needed but not included. With instructions.
Note: Once the lysozyme has been activated, it must be used immediately to ensure successful extraction of DNA from M. luteus.
