Meets AP® Chemistry topic 17. Students determine the formula of a complex ion and use a calibration curve they generate to determine the concentration of an unknown complex ion solution. The experiment introduces students to the Beer-Lambert law and the Method of Continuous Variation and how to use a spectrophotometer. In addition, students gain experience using volumetric glassware. Materials are sufficient for 30 students working in pairs.
