Meets AP® Chemistry Topics 11 and 19. In this 2-part experiment, students determine the pH ranges of 4 acid-base indicators and use provided titration curves to select the appropriate indicators for a strong acid/strong base titration and a weak acid/strong base titration.
Students evaluate the effectiveness of their selected indicators by performing several microtitrations. The characteristics of strong acid/strong base and weak acid/strong base titrations are examined. Materials are sufficient for 30 students working in pairs.
